En medio de las reiteradas críticas al "imperio" estadounidense, el presidente venezolano Hugo Chávez y el líder libio Muamar Gadafi se comprometieron este lunes a impulsar una cumbre internacional con el objeto de definir el concepto de "terrorismo".
Dicho compromiso quedó plasmado en una declaración conjunta que ambos gobernantes suscribieron en defensa del nuevo orden mundial.
"Tengamos todos la conciencia de que aquí estamos escribiendo páginas de una nueva historia, enfrentando el imperialismo, la burguesía, el atraso y el colonialismo", dijo Chávez durante un acto celebrado en la isla de Margarita.
Venezuela y Libia "tenemos la misma trinchera, el mismo destino, la misma batalla contra un mismo enemigo y vamos a vencer", aseguró, por su parte, Gadafi.
Asimismo, los mandatarios firmaron varios acuerdos políticos, económicos y energéticos para estrechar la cooperación entre los dos países.
Uno de los compromisos adquiridos por ambas partes fue el de llevar a consulta la candidatura de Venezuela como miembro del Consejo Ejecutivo de la Organización de Naciones Unidas para la Educación, la Ciencia y la Cultura (Unesco) para el período 2010-2013.
Por otro lado, ambos líderes reiteraron la necesidad de reformar la ONU mediante la reactivación del papel de la Asamblea General.
Durante el acto, Chávez impuso a Gadafi el collar de la Orden del Libertador, máxima distinción otorgada por Venezuela, y le obsequió una réplica de la espada del Libertador Simón Bolívar.
